At about 4 in the morning I heard a weird noise and woke up. My vision was kind of hazy but I swear I saw a woman facing away from me, she was just standing outside my window. This wasn't a split second thing either, I was looking at her for about 15 seconds until she kind of went poof.

Patriotism and nationalism are tools that people in power use to promote mindlessnes

I have never believed in patriotism, and have also never really celebrated Merdeka day. Being an independent country is reason to be grateful, but somehow I feel it is not 'my' country, or not really independent, especially with the bumi policy, the dominance of one particular party, the censorship on media, etc etc.

The whole purpose of our overdone and pompous Merdeka celebrations is to create a nationalistic patriotic frenzy so that people will overlook and forget such problems.

There is a distinct difference between nationalism, patriotism and mindless celebration. Do the kids celebrate Merdeka because we gained Independence years ago? Or do they celebrate Merdeka just because they want an excuse to go out at night?

With that said and done.

What are you guys doing on Merdeka night? Do give me a call ;)
